Comienzo al final, este es el libro que hicimos 10 artistas trabajando juntos por un mes.
Let me start at the end, this is the book that 10 artists worked on for a month together.
Este es el taller donde imprimimos sobre el papel que fabricamos los 10 artistas.
This the workshop where we printed on the paper made by 10 artists.
Estos son los plátanos que crecen hacia arriba, desafiando la gravedad, que dibuje en una litografía.
These are the plaintains that grow upwards defying gravity, that I drew in a litho print.
Me disculpo por las fotografías sólo de mi trabajo e impresiones.
Después de tanta discusión sobre lo colectivo esto fue un ejercicio solitario casi inexcusable, solo justificado por el alivio de despojarme de la cámara. Como habían tantos excelentes fotógrafos es muy sabroso que te inundan de fotos en fb y el blog.
My excuses for only having photographs of my own work and prints. Especially after so much discussion about collective processes, this solitary exercise is only justifiable by the relief of not carrying a camera around with me all the time. There were so many great photographers, it’s very nice to get a flood of photos on fb and the blog.
¡Qué dedicación y cuidado fue necesario para sacar una edición de este dibujo en aguada sobre la piedra litográfica. La flor del plátano se nos quería escapar. Qué proceso tan delicado y misterioso, resultado del rechazo entre el agua y la grasa!
What dedication and care were necesary to edit this lithographic print. The plantain flower was often on the point of dissappearing. What a delicate and mysterious process, this reaction between water and grease.
Los artistas aprendimos como buenos testarudos cometiendo todos los errores que nos habían alertado los profesores, como por ejemplo, no usar el papel mezclado con algodón para imprimir.
The artists learnt, as good stubborn characters that we are, by making all the mistakes we’d been alerted to by our teachers. For example that the paper mixed with cotton was not great for printing.
Las otras fibras usadas para el papel sí fueron muy bellas como el sisal y la Daphne (extraña reminiscencia inglesa en su nombre para un material que venía de Nepal).
The other fibres that we used were very beautiful, sisal and Daphne (funny English remeniscence in it’s name for a plant that comes from Nepal)
La técnica para sacar una hoja con la pulpa distribuida de forma pareja parecía muy elusiva. Pero la experimentación fue muy provechosa en otros sentidos, probando con el ‘pulp-painting’ para hacer eco de los dibujos de Sheronawe .
The technique to lift an evenly distributed layer of pulp for a sheet of paper seemed very elusive. But it was exciting experimenting with pulp-painting amking an eco of Sheronawes drawings that were then combined with the litho print.
Hacer un libro en colaboración en un mes no es poca cosa. Fue un excelente ejercicio para quien está muy acostumbrado a escuchar sólo los pensamientos propios. Espero que se logre el objetivo de apoyar a la comunidad Yanomami, se mantenga el taller y se repita con otros grupos. Gracias Alvaro, Tahia, Melissa, Agustin, Gabriela y todos los amigos artistas y colaboradores.
To make a collaboartive book in a month is not a small thing, and collective processes demand time and patience. It was a great exercise for someone maybe over accustomed to just hearing their own thoughts all day.
I hope the objective to contribute to the Yanomami paper-making project is achieved, and that the workshop can be repeated. Thankyou Alvaro, Tahia, Melissa, Agustin, Gabriela and all the artists and collaborators.
